After the end of the CBS era and the Dan Smith revival, production of the Standard Stratocaster mostly moved to Japan in 1985 and continued there through 1991. The made-in-Japan (MIJ) Standard Stratocasters are not as highly sought after as their American-made counterparts, but are still consider high quality players' guitars.
