Whereas the Epiphone Casino was a full hollowbody like the Gibson ES-330, the Sheraton was a semi-hollowbody with a maple centerblock similar to the ES-335. The Sheraton premiered in 1958 after Gibson purchased Epiphone, and the earliest examples use components leftover from Epiphone's New York factory. In 1961, a vibrato tailpiece and mini-humbucker pickups were made standard.
