Ludwig Standard 5x14 Aluminum Snare 1970s

Reverb Estimated Used Price Range

  • $110$250

Released in 1968 in response to the influx of low-end Japanese import drums, the Ludwig Standard Series was marketed towards amateur and semi-pro players. Despite the lower price tag and simple albeit flimsy hardware, the Standard “All-Metal Snare” (as titled in the 1969 catalog) features the same seamless spun aluminum “Ludalloy” shell that made the Supraphonic and Acrolite famous, though without the iconic center bead. The Standards were not particularly successful, and were discontinued sometime in the mid 70s.

Features: Eight smooth Standard lugs, non-beaded seamless Aluminum shell, P-83 snare strainer, black/silver inverted triangle badge

Finishes: Chrome-over-aluminum or matte grey "Acrolite" finishes.
