The Neumann M 149 is a large diaphragm tube condenser microphone with five selectable polar patterns and a four position bass rolloff.
The M 149 shares a capsule design with the classic M 49 microphone, but the electronics are vastly different. More contemporary transformerless electronics are employed, and the vacuum tube is used as a coloration device rather than an integral part of the amplifier.
In 2003, a 75th Anniversary microphone, the M 149 Jubilee, was released. It was the same microphone as the standard M 149 but with a platinum finish and "75th Anniversary" engraved into the body. These were sold as both single microphones and matched stereo sets.
