Gibson introduced the Sonex series in the early '80s as an affordable take on the classic Les Paul shape. Sonex guitars were mostly distinguished by their use of what Gibson called a "multi-phonic" body. This meant that the body was made with a wood core surrounded by a dense resin. The Custom version of the Sonex-180 included a coil-tap switch.

Body Style:
Single cutaway solidbody

Years of Production: 1980 - 1982

Design Elements: Two uncovered humbuckers, "multi-phonic" body, Tune-o-matic bridge, bolt-on neck, coil-tap
