Gibson replaced the original Les Paul body shape with the SG body shape at the end of 1960 which included the high-end Les Paul Custom. Gibson discontinued this model in 1980, though a number of reissues have been made since. Most SG Customs from the '70s have a stopbar tailpiece, but some were made with a Bigsby tremolo.
