Tell Congress We Need an Effective Sales Tax Solution

On June 21st, the Supreme Court issued its ruling in South Dakota v. Wayfair, allowing states to impose sales taxes on online sellers with no physical presence in the state. In short, the ruling will allow each state the right to audit and impose sales tax on every Reverb member’s transactions, regardless of size.

As a community made up primarily of small and micro-businesses, this decision may have damaging consequences for millions of individual sellers, family-owned stores, and budding garage businesses. Since we started in 2013, our goal has always been to provide our members with a fair online space to conduct their business, and now, we want to give you a voice to let lawmakers know we need new legislation to protect that space.

Make your voice heard and sign our petition asking Congress for an effective sales tax solution. Signing takes less than a minute and will make a loud and clear point to policymakers that we value our community and refuse to allow small business to suffer under this new ruling.

To Congress:

While we understand the desire to level the playing field for brick-and-mortar and online retailers, we recognize the need for a comprehensive, reasonable, and easy-to-understand tax solution. The recent decision, as it stands, could result in a logistical nightmare for small business, micro-businesses, and individual sellers. While we do not doubt the Supreme Court issued the Wayfair decision with the best intentions, it is also highly unlikely they considered the full practical implications imposed on a community like Reverb’s.

By this petition, Reverb is calling on Congress and all applicable law and policymakers to lift up and support micro and small businesses and create a tax proposal that is uniform, easy-to-understand, fair and provides workable exemptions for individuals, small and micro-businesses.
