Overview

The Grand Auditorium is one of Taylor's most popular guitar body styles, so it makes sense that the Taylor 414ce Grand Auditorium acoustic-electric guitar would be considered a popular, highly versatile instrument. Though the 414ce initially sported the Fishman Prefix system, in 2004, Taylor switched to their own onboard electronics system: their mounted Expression System 2. Like many in the 400 Series, the 414ce acoustic-electric is comprised of a sitka spruce top and ovangkol back and sides to give this guitar a wide tonal palette.

I don't like spending a lot on guitars, and am mostly an electric player, but I wanted a quality acoustic. This guitar costs more than I wanted to spend, but immediately after strumming an open g chord, I was hooked. The tone is so rich and full and the sustain is there too. Taylor's are known for their quality, and this one did not disappoint.

  • Most excellent!!

I really cannot find any negative things to say about this guitar. It has a very full sound, easy to play, and great build quality. I'm old school high end Martin, and was hesitant on buying a Taylor. I'm very glad I did.

Guitar is exciting to look at and the sound with the Rosewood totally outshines the Ovangkol. Not critical of the latter but the fact that the 414 Rosewood has aged 12 years longer than my Ovangkol. Built to the 814ce specs and it shows!
