The Rickenbacker 480 series (the 480, 481 and 483) all used a similar body style to the iconic 4000 series basses. These guitars were never as popular as more famous Rickenbackers such as the 360, but are of interest to collectors due to their relative rarity. Unlike most Rickenbackers, the 480 uses a bolt-on neck.
