Overview

Following in the footsteps of its predecessor, the Rickenbacker 4003 bass guitar offers updates to the 4001 just as the 4001 upgraded the 4000. Though the 4001 went out of production in the '80s, the 4003 lived on to become Rickenbacker’s most popular bass model. The cresting wave body shape remains consistent between the 4001 and 4003, but the 4003 bass changes up the truss rod system. The 4003 has collected a number of famous fans, including Geddy Lee, Chris Squire, Paul McCartney, and more.

I've been a Ricky lover since I heard Wings Over America from 1976. Geddy Lee's Ricky on All the World's a Stage is classic. The thing about Ricks is you either love em or hate em. A Rick has a distinctive sound that few other Basses can replicate. If I want versatility I go to my P-Bass, but if I w…

While I am more guitarist than bassist by a long stretch, there are days when a bass is the thing. I have wanted a Rick for a long time and it plays and sounds great and very different from my Precisions and Jazz bass. It's at once thick but also pokey and definitely delivers that Geddy Lee and Ch…

Never heard anything quite like it. It sounds thick, hollow and angry.... and that is a really great thing. The neck is thin like a jazz and wide (wider than a p-bass) Surprised at how fast the neck is even though it is so wide. I realize these guitars aren’t for everyone but I think this is probably the coolest bass sound I have experienced first hand.

I am home recording artist and I want to learn to be better on the bass. I usually borrow my friend's bass, and I do well enough. I figured I might as well get the only bass I'll ever need - and I do not regret it. It feels great on my hands and sounds gorgeous. Lightweight. I was also looking as a Fender American Pro Jazz Bass - but I think this one just felt better.
