Overview
This popular 1960s Ludwig outfit combines the smaller 14x20" bass drum size of the Downbeat with the larger tom tom sizes of the Super Classic, hence the colloquial name "Super Beat". Never officially offered in any '60s-era catalog, this configuration finally appeared in Ludwig's 1971 literature as Model No. 987 - an option on the No. 980 Super Classic.
