Initially a replacement for the Artist 2360, the Ibanez AS200 came into its own right as a favorite guitar for blues and jazz guitarists in the 1980s, most notably John Scofield, who names it as one of the best guitars he's ever played. It differs from the AS100 in its use of flamed maple and block inlays. In 1987, "Artist" was dropped from the name, and the AS200 became part of the Artstar series.
