Not to be confused with the earlier hollowbody Gretsch Corvette, the Gretsch Corvette solidbody was introduced in 1961 as a smaller, simpler alternative to the Jet series. Initially built with an unbound slab body, the Corvette series was given new bevelled edges and a burns tremolo in 1963. Also starting in 1963, the model was offered in either a single or double pickup configuration. The Corvette was produced in a number of variations in the '60s including the Twist (6109) and the Princess (6106).
