Overview

The Gibson Southern Jumbo (also known as the SJ) went through several design changes over its more than two decades of production. While the earliest specimens from the '40s are the most valuable, the '50s still represent a classic era for the model, before the design changed from sloped to square-shoulder in 1962 and ultimately the Norlin takeover of Gibson in the late '60s. In 1970, this model was renamed the Southern Jumbo Deluxe.

Like many classic Gibson acoustics, there have been several reissues released in more recent years. The natural finish version of the Southern Jumbo is known as the Country Western.

Years of Production: 1942 - 1969, 1991 - 1996 (first reissue)
