Overview

The SG Special evolved out of the Les Paul Special in the early '60s when Gibson introduced the SG as its primary solidbody shape. The Special was conceived as a more affordable, parred-down take on SG Standard, and this designation persists till today. New to 2015, the Junior sports a wider neck profile, brass zero-fret nut, G-Force electronic tuning system, and a limited edition logo and hologram commemorating Les Paul's 100th birthday. Also available in Translucent Ebony and Fireburst.

Years of Production:
 1959 - 1978, 1985 - present

Body Style: Dual cutaway solidbody

Wood Composition: Mahogany body, Mahogany neck, Rosewood fingerboard

Design Elements: Dual uncovered humbucker pickups, two volume and two control knobs, 24.75-inch scale length, set neck, brass nut, electronic tuners

Notable SG Players:  Tony Iommi, Angus Young, Derek Trucks, Jeff Tweedy
