I am offering here a Gibson Custom Shop Joe Bonamassa ’61 ES-335 from 2012, a handcrafted in the Custom Shop in Nashville, Tennessee (USA), signature semi-hollow electric guitar model of blues-rock legend Joe Bonamassa limited to approximately only 350 instruments, featuring top, back, and sides made of maple/poplar/maple laminate including a solid maple center block (with a total weight of just 3.36kg!), set mahogany neck with 1959 Bonamassa Round neck profile, bound rosewood fretboard with pearl dot inlays, two Gibson CS ’57 Classic humbucker pickups, high-quality Kluson Deluxe Tulip Button vintage tuners as well as a Gibson ABR-1 bridge and aluminum stopbar in a beautiful vintage sunburst VOS nitro finish in excellent collector’s condition, including black Gibson luxury hardshell case, all manufacturer’s documents (including C.o.A.) and professional setup with 10-46 Elixir Optiweb strings.Joe Bonamassa is one of the most famous living blues guitarists of all time; with his virtuosity, passionate playing style, and love for the blues, he ranks among the best of all time. He has been making history with his music for over 30 years, has received numerous Grammy nominations for his work, and is known for his “Nerdville” collection—an extensive, meticulously curated selection of instruments.To honor this one-of-a-kind musician, Gibson released a limited-edition signature model in 2012, which strictly adheres to the specs of one of Joe’s favorite guitars in his collection: the 1961 Gibson ES-335. The result is an absolute premium high-end model and arguably one of the most beautiful Custom Shop reissue interpretations in the semi-hollow category.The Bonamassa ES-335 stands out in its elaborate 1961 design primarily due to a lightweight mahogany neck and a lightweight sustain block. The resulting reduction in weight (3.36kg total weight) ensures excellent resonance, and the guitar therefore responds with exceptional dynamic range even when played acoustically. As with Joe’s original, the cutaways feature the historically accurate “Mickey Mouse” shaping, and the maple body showcases a subtle flame figure that stands out beautifully beneath the thin, semi-transparent Vintage Sunburst VOS Nitro finish.Tonally, thanks to the two Gibson CS ’57 Classic humbuckers, the guitar delivers a warm, woody PAF tone with outstanding dynamic response and presence, allowing it to cover everything from smooth, jazzy cleans to powerful, rock-driven overdrive sounds with incredible conviction.
