Introduced in 1961, it brought Fender’s spring reverb sound to amplifiers that did not have built in reverb and quickly became a defining part of the surf music explosion of the early 1960s. Housed in a small amplifier style cabinet covered in brown tolex, the 6G15 remains the benchmark for standalone spring reverb and is still widely copied today. This 1962 example comes from the heart of the brownface era and delivers the classic standalone Fender reverb sound heard on countless recordings throughout the 1960s and beyond. Unlike later onboard reverb circuits, the 6G15 offers a much broader range of sounds through its Dwell, Mixer, and Tone controls, allowing everything from subtle ambience through to the deep, percussive "drip" that became synonymous with surf guitar. Internally, the circuit is fully hand wired on an eyelet board and utilises a 12AT7 preamp tube, 6K6 reverb driver tube, and 12AX7 recovery stage.Condition is very good for its age, with the brown tolex showing honest wear consistent with more than sixty years of use. It presents as a well preserved and highly usable example of one of Fender's most important standalone effects units.Specifications:Model: Fender 6G15 Reverb UnitYear: 1962Finish: Brown TolexCircuit: 6G15Controls: Dwell, Mixer, ToneReverb Type: Spring ReverbPreamp Tube: 12AT7Reverb Driver Tube: 6K6Recovery Tube: 12AX7Rectifier: Solid State DiodeConstruction: Hand Wired Eyelet BoardReverb Tank: Gibbs / Accutronics Style Spring TankCabinet Style: Brownface Era Fender Head CabinetCrafted in: Fullerton, California, USA
