About this listing
1966 Fender Mustang, beautifully aged Olympic White, and original hardshell case. Looks a lot better than most other 60 year olds I know. All original besides the vintage pickguard (1965), pickup covers, and selector switches and it RIPSSSSS. I'm selling it just because I have two other Mustang guitars (1965 and 1966) plus the '66 Mustang Bass you can see in one of the pictures (obviously not included) and am reaaaaally trying to be better about not hogging all the good stuff. This one has really aggressive and bite-y pickups (super jangly in the middle positions), a very sizzly and stratty Mustang tone, a little bit of flame in the neck, and a super dark rosewood board. Basically the perfect medium mid-60s neck shape. Lightweight (7lb 1.7oz — one of the other white '66s here is over 8lbs, insane!), perfect balance, everything you could want from a vintage Mustang. Oh and it's thankfully not the super short neck 22.5" version you see sometimes, it's the far more desirable standard 24" medium scale "B" neck which is a treat to play. It spent years in the case in the 70s sitting on top of a sheet music book with a fun 70s flower illustration on it, which transferred over to the back of the body ever-so-faintly which looks soooooooo cool, though it's only visible in certain lighting. Professionally set-up and gone thru, zero issues, plays great. OHSC and whammy bar included. The pickup covers and pickguard were replaced because the originals disintegrated — 1966 was a transition year for celluloid nitrate, and many of them off-gassed and disintegrated. I hunted down a vintage one from the year earlier and now it's perfect! But guess what? YOU GET THE NAUGHTY ONE TOO! IT'S INCLUDED ABSOLUTELY FREE! It's semi fragmented, see the pics — maybe you could put it behind glass and frame it as kind of a living, gassy art piece that you can watch disintegrate further in front of your very eyes while you stand saluting it as William Basinski's Disintegration Loops plays loudly in the background. Modern pickguards just don't hold a candle to the depth and 3D-ness of the vintage ones, it was absolutely worth the hassle/multi-hundred-dollar price of hunting one down to keep it correct. The pickup selector switches themselves were also recently upgraded, since the originals were getting a little wonky as often happens on Mustangs (the originals are included too!). Super loud and clear and reliable in all positions. Can’t say that about every vintage Mustang I’ve owned, haha.Message me with any and all questions.Pricing it attractively for an Olympic White one at $2949, should be the lowest priced one here — I think even lower than some refins people list for delusionally high prices, haha. Covered by my Heritage instrument insurance policy while in transit to you. Thanks for checking it out! No AI used in this description — some of us can actually write.
