Fender American Vintage '62 Jazzmaster 2000 - 2012

Overview

Though it's no longer in production, the Fender American Vintage '62 Jazzmaster was a member of the company's esteemed American Vintage Reissue series, designed to the specs of old-school favorites. This one, of course, was based on the original '62 Jazzmaster, which was renowned for its place in the surf rock tunes of the '60s, as well as a smattering of other defining genres over the following decades. With two single-coil soapbar pickups, a three-way pickup selection switch, and a floating tremolo system, among other design elements matched to its vintage counterpart, the American Vintage '62 Jazzmaster is a great way to get those retro vibes flowing.

  • Everything is pretty good....

Love the nitro paint and vintage specs. Neck is slimmer than the 65 reissue. However, the pickups are pretty bad, neck is too dark and bridge is very tinny.

  • Meh.

It's okay. The pickups are beefier than expected, heavier than strat pickups. The finish is sloppy for the price, and it's not perfect craftsmanship, which maybe is to be expected. But if I ever buy another new guitar for this amount of money, I'll play it in store and determine whether the cost f…

  • Really good, a bit overpriced, sound overall better than the 65 AVRI models

Bullet points: 1) I've found these models really vary from one example to the next. A good one nails the Tom Verlaine sound we all love, a bad one sounds like Dad-Jazz with no clarity. 2) The necks feel great on these. I like the pickups on 62 Reissues a lot more than the 65 reissues 3) Since Jazzma…

I've had this for 2 weeks now, played one live gig. I've had lots of strats, been playing 36 years, but never onwed a Jazzmaster. This is my first. This particular guitar is a 2007 American Jazzmaster with upgraded Loller pickups and Mustang bridge pieces (and a buzzstop). The live gig I played …
