Résumé

The Epiphone Valve Jr is as simple and pure as Class A tube amps get. Single input, single knob (volume) and only one 12AX7 and one EL84 tube power this 5W monster. A solid state rectifier finishes the chassis, providing quick breakup and crunch. Optional 4, 8 and 16 ohm outputs allow a variety of cab configurations. The Valve Jr is awesome for beginners, those on the go, and pros looking for a no-nonsense studio fix.

  • Great Amp

I have two of these to power a stereo cab. They sound great!

Great amp, sounds like a much more expensive amp if you swap the tubes.... even if you don't, still sounds great. solid, and well built I own a combo and a head, both are perfect for my needs. The low wattage allows for very nice natural breakup of the amp. Fun.

  • Reliable little powerhouse

And it has plenty of times waiting inside. If you want a no frills single ended amp at a bargain price look no further.

  • Four stars with five star potential

I like these little amps enough that I have three of them; two have the Mercury Magnetic iron and circuit mods along with the matching 1x12 cabinets and the third is improved stock (by that I mean Hammond transformers, lead dressing, Fromel circuit mods, a TungSol 12AX7 and a JJ EL84). For the modes…

  • A very dark sounding amp

The DC filaments which reduce noise also kill all the high end. Stock tubes suck. Very loud 5 watts and can really drive a 25 watt Celestion Greenback speaker. But basically lifeless dull sounding good for practice if you dont want to burn out your real tube amps. Looks easy to replace the 2 tubes. I give it 4 stars for the price.
