While the Cardyne featured a larger design, it was produced for a much shorter period and ultimately never gained the same notoriety as the 55. Inside the there is a new capsule that closely resembles one that you'd find in a Beta 58A which is results in a well balanced sound which would work great for a wide range of sources. This would be a big improvement over the originals, especially considering many out there that are working are typically not up to spec. Keep in mind, the same thing is pretty common with the Shure 55 due to the microphones taking drops or just the original mounting going bad which leads the capsules to take a slow beating. Lastly, this mic comes with an adapter cable that was recently made so it should last the new owner a while with some care.
