Charvel's history as a manufacturer actually began as a repair shop and parts catalog based in Southern California. Eventually, Charvel started manufacturing one-off guitars in a few different body styles. The "Pre-Production" Strat models here can feature any number of specifications off Charvel's menu, and frequently boast elaborate finishes. Charvel shifted production to Japan in 1986, and began making factory models, while their sibling company, Jackson, remained an exclusively bespoke manufacturer until the end of the decade.
