Alvarez guitars date back to 1965 when St. Louis Music began importing guitars built by luthier Kazuo Yairi from Japan. While Yairi made a number of higher-end guitars for Alvarez (referred to Alvarez-Yairi or just Yairi guitars), many of Alvarez's instruments were lower-end or budget models. While model numbers can be illusive, typically the value of early Alvarez acoustics can be judged by the appointment set such as the binding and inlay details. This guitar would be considered a mid to high-end example.
