Fender Musicmaster 1977 Black

Another dusty relic straight out of storage, and an interesting one it is.

The early S serial number dates this Fender Musicmaster to 1977.

The neck, apart from cosmetic issues I’ve shown, is nice and the guitar plays fairly well. There is noticeable fret wear.

The body is in rough shape and has undergone several unfortunate modifications which I’ve done my best to undo.

Some jackass, (younger me) relocated the bridge to accommodate a full scale strat neck, and then routed for a humbucker! I was dumb. The guitar then sat for years and various parts were lost, until a couple years ago when I finally put it back together.

It has a reproduction Musicmaster II style pickguard and control plate, which Fender stopped in 1977. I find it more eye pleasing than the ‘77 and later style pickguard, but this means there are extra screw holes, both from the old pickguard, and from the bridge relocation, (note the bridge is now again in the correct location).

Also, the finish is very abused. It looks ok from a few feet away, but the finish is very cracked and uneven, as if some was dissolved away. This guitar was toted around for years with no case.

That being said, it’s a fun, cool, vintage Fender you could gig with tonight.

The pickup is original under a non original cover.

The low price reflects the damage inflicted in my youth.
