Up for sale, a 1977 Fender Telecaster Custom in exceptional condition and in perfect working order. A exceedingly well-kept guitar with the original hardshell case and manual, this Tele features a natural gloss finish, highlighting the prominent grain of the solid ash body. The guitar has notable midrange richness and nuance, with ample note attack and clear, cutting qualities indicative of the combination of an ash body and maple fretboard. A perfect example of what makes these guitars beloved, this Tele blends the twang and sparkle of a classic Telecaster bridge pickup with the clear, humbucker warmth of the Seth Lover-designed Fender "Wide Range" pickup in the neck position. A very clear and percussive humbucker design with more shimmer and top end detail than most dual coil pickups, the Wide Range humbucker pairs very well with the bridge position single coil in terms of output, and the two pickups compliment each other very well when both are engaged. Acoustically, this Tele Custom is very resonant and lively, balancing well on a strap and weighing 8lbs 11oz. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar and strung with a fresh set of 10-46 strings, this Tele Custom features low action and spot-on intonation thanks to the optional factory six saddle bridge.

The maple neck has a fairly slender C shape, almost feeling like a soft V up the fretboard, with notably slim shoulders. The profile gains a bit of depth as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .842" deep at the 1st fret and .941" at the 12th. The maple fretboard retains the stock frets which are notably clean, showing just a touch of wear on the crowns beneath the plain strings on frets 1-3. The guitar plays well in all registers with no buzzing or dead spots, and the original nut is intact, measuring 1 5/8" in width. The headstock sports the original Fender "F" tuning machines which turn smoothly and hold pitch well. These tuners were at one time substituted for a different set of gears, yet the post holes retain their original diameter and the original F tuners are now back on the guitar, all but covering the small additional set of mounting holes.

On the body, all of the electronics work as they should, with original CTS pots and untouched solder joints. The electronics cavities have the original shielding too. The original hardware is intact including the Fender stamped chrome six saddle bridge (a factory option at the time), witch hat knobs, and of course the very cool Tele Custom black pickguard.

Cosmetically, this guitar is a sparingly played example sure to delight discerning collectors. The guitar shows light scuffing in the pick path on the guard and Wide Range pickup cover as well as a few stray finish scratches in the clear coat on the back. The neck profile is perfectly smooth with no palm wear and just a couple shallow nicks.

The original black tolex Fender hardshell case is included, along with the original manual.

We use industrial 1/2" bubble wrap as well as 1" hard foam and double walled boxes where applicable to make sure your purchase arrives safely. Strings are detuned, switch tips and endpins packed separately, and all usual precautions taken to ensure that our instruments and amps arrive exactly as described.
