Today, Andy is checking out Universal Audio's OX Amp Top Box Attenuator. This premium piece of equipment is a reactive amp attenuator and speaker emulator. The OX allows players to dial in warm, studio-quality tube tones at any volume, with complete control over microphone, room, and speaker cabinet tones.
Packed into the OX is a menu of 17 speaker options, all promising accurate emulation of speaker drive, breakup, and cone cry. Players can also fine-tune their rig settings—close mics, room mics, and studio effects from UA's own plugin library—from within the OX mobile or desktop companion app. The amp box also features recording functionality, with a bevy of connection options on the back panel for in-studio use and live gig integrations.
