Paul Cauthen, a Texas troubadour blessed with a deep baritone, recently stopped by the Reverb studio to treat us to a few of his God-fearing tunes.
Cauthen's 2016 solo debut My Gospel—which followed two albums by his previous band, Sons of Fathers—garnered comparisons to outlaw greats like Waylon Jennings and songwriters like Guy Clark. Last year's Have Mercy EP, backed by The Texas Gentlemen, further cemented that reputation.
While at Reverb, Cauthen gave us a stripped-down solo performance that puts his intoned sermons front-and-center, starting with "Reign On My Mind," then "Prayed for Rain," followed by "Lay Me Down." We also got a chance to talk to him about some of his favorite records. To check out that video, head over to Reverb LP now.
Paul Cauthen is playing throughout Texas this March and April, before heading over to the UK. To see all his upcoming tour dates, find his website here.
