Video: MXR Super Badass Variac Fuzz and M290 Phase 95 Mini Phaser

Brian Kehoe from Dunlop Manufacturing stopped by Reverb with two of MXR's newest pedal releases – the Super Badass Variac Fuzz and the M290 Phase 95 Mini Phaser.

From the initial idea to mod a Band of Gypsys Fuzz Face, the Super Badass Variac Fuzz was born. At Brian Kehoe's request, pedal maker Jeorge Tripps added a tone knob to the Fuzz Face, and Brian elaborated with his own idea to add a variac switch. This switch allows players to adjust the voltage from 15 volts down to 5 volts. Staying in the 15V range will give you a cleaner overdrive, while cranking down to 5V will put you in what Brian dubs the "dying battery" range. This pedal also has a lot more output than vintage fuzz effects, allowing you to really blast into the input section of your tube amp.

The MXR M290 Phase 95 Mini Phaser is a lot more than just a Phase 90 with a smaller footprint. With this pedal, you can bounce between the heavier Phase 90 circuit and the Phase 45 circuit for a more subtle effect. Another on-board switch allows you to control the script, which either removes or adds in more feedback for a really pronounced effect.
