EQD and Boris Team Up for the Hizumitas Fuzz

The crushing fuzz tones Wata achieves with Japanese experimental doom heavyweights Boris is reimagined in a new pedal from EarthQuaker Devices: Hizumitas.

The Hizumitas is EQD's take on the Elk BM Sustainar, a rare vintage fuzz that Wata has long used to create her pummeling riffs. It's available on Reverb now in both its standard colorway and our Reverb exclusive black chassis. And for an extra sonic treat? Boris' new Reincarnation Rose vinyl EP—limited to only 500 copies—is only available through the purchase of the limited-edition black Hizumitas.

What can you expect from the Hizumitas? As much heavy distortion and massive bass response as you desire, with the type of purring sustain you could expect from '70s V1 Triangle Big Muffs.

Wata's specific Elk Sustainar is said to be an even more rawer sounding than the typical Big Muff-style circuit found in other Sustainars. The Hizumitas matches this raw edge with Tone, Sustain, and Volume controls that allow for a wide range of sonic options. As EQD writes, the Volume knob's "unity is around 9-10 o’clock; everything above that is set to destroy."

The limited-edition black Hizumitas is available now for $169 USD, only on Reverb. The purchase of this exclusive colorway will include one Reincarnation Rose vinyl EP. Preorders for the standard Hizumitas are also available.
