Today, we here at Reverb are excited to announce that NEA Jazz Master George Benson—the 10-time Grammy Award-winning jazz guitarist, singer, and songwriter—will soon be opening his own official Reverb Shop, giving fans the opportunity to own something from his personal collection.
UPDATE, 10/16/24: The Official George Benson Reverb Shop is now open! It features a number of rare and vintage guitars that Benson has used in the studio and on the road throughout his illustrious career.
One particular example that you'll find in his shop is the Gibson Johnny Smith guitar that Benson famously played throughout his chart-topping, award-winning 1976 hit record Breezin'.
The musician, who has had four records go platinum, will also be parting with several important Ibanez models, including a GB10 that has been his primary touring guitar for over a decade and a one-of-one Ibanez GB that was specially designed after the GB20.
Other items that will be in The Official George Benson Reverb Shop include:
- An original D’Aquisto from 1980 that was personally built by master luthier Jimmy D’Aquisto.
- An Ibanez 30th-Anniversary GB Kimono Inlay, which Benson used to perform his duet on a single for guitarist Norman Brown.
- A Gibson L5 Wes Montgomery, complete with a real tortoise shell pickguard.
- An Ibanez GB 45th SSR (the original prototype of Ibanez’s 45th-anniversary guitar) featuring a GB-exclusive-designed adjustable tailpiece.
The Official George Benson Reverb Shop is now open. You can also catch George Benson live during the four-day Breezin' With The Stars event at the Wigwam Resort in Phoenix from January third through the sixth.
