Song Stories: Butch Walker's "Ludlow Expectations"

With over two decades spent in the music business, Butch Walker has been around the block. He's known for having written songs and produced albums for major successes like Taylor Swift, Fall Out Boy, and Weezer. And those experiences of writing and producing music for others has shown him just how important it is with his own music to write and record what he likes without regard for what's popular or might get him noticed.

He refers to his new album, Stay Gold, as a nostalgia record – his mid-life crisis record. Anchored in his memories of being a teenager in the '80s, you can hear his appreciation for guys he grew up digging, like Bruce Springsteen, John Mellencamp, and Tom Petty. "Ludlow Expectations" is a tune about something we all experience during those years – falling head-over-heels for that one person we just met.

An avid gearhead in his younger years, Butch learned about the volatility of possession when he lost everything but the two guitars on his back in a house fire ten years ago. Now, he regularly flips gear on Reverb to try out new things and only holds onto the pieces that he has built a history with.
