Sgt. Pepper's 50th Anniversary Reissue to Include Previously Unheard Studio Takes

This year, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band turns 50. To celebrate the Beatles' classic, Apple Corps Ltd./Capitol/UME will be offering a variety of reissue packages starting on May 26th.

Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band Box Set

The base–level reissue package will be a single CD with the remastered stereo mix of the album, along with previously unreleased complete takes of each of the album's 13 tracks. An expanded deluxe edition will be available and will feature three extra previously unreleased remastered stereo mixes, including an instrumental version of "Penny Lane" and two takes of "Strawberry Fields Forever." You can pick up the deluxe edition digitally, as two–CD set, or as a double LP vinyl package.

Also available will be a super deluxe box set that includes 33 more (mostly unreleased) mixes from the Sgt. Pepper sessions, as well as a restored version of the unreleased 1992 documentary The Making of Sgt. Pepper and various promotional films for the tracks.

If you pick up the super deluxe package, you'll also receive a 144–page hardcover book all about Sgt. Pepper — the making of, the mixing of, and everything related to the album and each of the tracks. Noted journalists Ed Vulliamy and Jeff Slate, producer Joe Boyd, composer Howard Goodall, and Beatles historian Kevin Howlett all contributed to the book. The introduction was written by Paul McCartney and Giles Martin — the producer who mixed the reissue with Sam Okell.
