ROLI Announces Update to Palm-Sized Lightpad Block

Today, ROLI unveiled the second generation of their Lightpad Block, the Lightpad Block M. The innovative instrument designer is also rolling out an updated version of its Noise companion app.

The first generation of ROLI Blocks — the Lightpad Block, Loop Block, and Live Block — hit the market back in November of 2016 and offered an easy and cost-efficient way for people to get in on the company's style of MPE instrument control. Every Block has magnetic connectors on each of its four sides so that players can combine multiple blocks together to suit their playing or performance needs.

The main Block in the series is the Lightpad. With just that and the companion Noise app, anyone can start making music anywhere. The second generation of the Lightpad Block, the Lightpad M, is hitting the streets today at $199.95, bringing some exciting updates along with it.

The silicone surface of the Block has been totally redesigned. It's a deep, softer silicone with 225 microkeywaves, which provide additional tactile feedback modeled after the Seaboard MPE instruments. The color range is also much richer, with a higher contrast display that's 50% brighter than the first generation Lightpad.

ROLI also dropped Noise 3.0 today, which is available to owners of any of the Block devices regardless of generation. New additions to the app include acoustic instrument soundpacks, a Noise Audio Unit for GarageBand (over 400 polyphonic sounds from Noise are now directly plugged into GarageBand), a customized version of Ableton Live dubbed Ableton Live Lite, and a desktop sound player version of an FXpansion polysynth called Stobe2 Player.
