Ray Davies Says The Kinks Are Reuniting, Maybe

The long-feuding members of The Kinks may have let the bad blood finally pass.

According to an interview with Ray Davies on Britain's Channel 4 News, The Kinks are planning to record a new album. However, his coy announcement was less than definitive.

At the beginning of the interview, Ray got a call from Kinks drummer Mick Avory. After a brief conversation, he told Channel 4's Krishnan Guru-Murthy, "We're making a new Kinks album—inspired by the Rolling Stones."

When pressed, Ray said, "Well, we're thinking about. Because I've got all these songs I wrote for them when we—not broke up, but parted company—and I think it's an appropriate time to do it."

Pressed a second time—with Guru-Murthy asking directly, "Are The Kinks getting back together?"—Ray said, "Officially we are, yes. In a pub later on."

While this may have been a reference to only getting some drinks, Ray went on to explain that unlike the Rolling Stones' massive tour, The Kinks will likely get together to play at a local bar.

"The trouble is, the two remaining members—my brother Dave and Mick—never got along very well. But I've made that work in the studio and it's fired me up to make them play harder, and with fire," Davies said. "I’ve got tunes—I’ve got some great tunes in my head."

He said that Dave and Mick hadn’t yet been brought into the same room together, but that he’s working on it. To watch the full 30-minute interview, click here.
