Paul Reed Smith to Host a Music Camp This Summer

Building off of a smaller event held last December, Paul Reed Smith is hosting a 6-day music summer camp for musicians aged 12 and up, from children to retirees, in what he's calling the first annual Music Master Classes for Aspiring Musicians.

Open to all skill levels, the classes will be led by some highly accomplished players, including drummer Dennis Chambers—who has played with Parliament-Funkadelic and Santana—and many other working musicians. The session leaders will include drummer Greg Grainger and bassist Gary Grainger, a renowned rhythm section who have long been in the PRS orbit. (The Gary Grainger signature bass models are some of PRS' most popular.) And Paul himself will be directing sessions at the summer camp as well.

The Music Master Classes will take place August 19–23, with a showcase on August 24, all at the Maryland Hall arts center in Annapolis. Tuition is $500 per person, with scholarship opportunities available.

The sessions will be split up into three sections: rhythm, melody, and harmony. After dedicated lessons in each aspect of music-making, students will learn to take these building blocks and turn them into songs.

"When you learn each of those separately, you can then combine them and play music," Paul Reed Smith says in the video above. "We've been dreaming of having this music school for a week in the summer time with Maryland Hall for 15 years, and finally it's come to fruition."
