Maryland–based guitar builder, Paul Reed Smith has confirmed details of an updated John Mayer signature model, the Super Eagle II. This guitar comes from the PRS "Private Stock" collection and will be limited to 120 individual guitars.
The first hint of Mayer’s signature PRS came with an Instagram post in December 2015. Since then, Mayer has been seen playing the Super Eagle on stage while on tour with the Dead & Company.
This new guitar — the Super Eagle II — is an updated version of that original prototype and comes in a new finish dubbed "Hemp Green." The Super Eagle II is distinct from the Strat-like PRS that Mayer teased on Instagram in earlier this year.
According to the PRS website:
"Some of the specifications Mayer and Smith collaborated on for this special run of instruments include a longer (for PRS) scale length of 25.375”, specially-wound 58/15 JM treble and bass pickups with a specially-wound Narrowfield JM pickup in the middle position (with three individual coil-tap mini-switches), a JCF Audio preamp with treble boost, as well as a hand-signed sticker in the f-hole of the guitar that was designed by Mayer’s friend David Smith (who also designed the cover art for Mayer’s 2012 “Born and Raised” album)."
Stay tuned for more details on this model as listings land on Reverb over the next several weeks.
