If you've been keeping up with our In the Studio with Jamie Lidell series here on Reverb, you've so far seen the producer show us how to combat the blank slate phenomenon using his Needle Drop Ableton Live patch as well as how to turn a handful of monosynths into one big polysynth.
For this week's installment of the series, the Hanging Out With Audiophiles podcaster is turning his attention to another production technique—this time, within Pro Tools—that he uses to experiment with vocals.
As Jamie explains, the technique involves slowing down a track, singing over the slowed-down track, and then speeding the track and newly recorded vocal back to the regular speed, resulting in a high-pitched, in-key vocal. The effect is akin to varispeed recording on a tape machine—previously unattainable for Jamie, who doesn't have a tape machine in his studio.
