Jessi Zazu of Those Darlins Dies at 28

Jessi Zazu — singer and guitarist for Nashville's Those Darlins — has died following a battle with cervical cancer. She was 28.

Along with Nikki Kvarnes and Kelley Anderson, Zazu formed Those Darlins in 2006 and released their first EP in 2008. The group released three full-length albums between 2009 and 2013 before going on an indefinite hiatus in late 2015.

The band toured extensively through the years, opening for Dan Auerbach and the Drive-by Truckers among many others. Their sound combined country and rockabilly tones with decidedly punk rock sensibilities and style.

Following her diagnosis, Zazu released the following video and sold t-shirts with the words "Ain't Afraid" in red across the front to help raise funds for treatment.

According to a report by The Tennessean, "Zazu died surrounded by family, friends and fellow musicians who lined the waiting room inside Centennial Hospital's intensive care unit."
