Back in the spring of this year, Fender partnered with toy brand Mattel to make 16 one-of-a-kind, Hot Wheels-inspired guitars. The guitars were built in Fender's Custom Shop by a selection of Master Builders and each design was inspired by a different car in the Hot Wheels collection.
Despite being one-off Masterbuilt Custom Shop models that commanded high prices, all of the Hot Wheels models sold quite quickly. This week's find is a particular special Hot Wheels model—the Fender Bad to the Blade Katana—which is the first model of this collection that we've seen to hit Reverb.
While there were more than one Stratocaster and Telecaster model in the Hot Wheels Collection, this is the only Hot Wheels-inspired Katana. It was built by apprentice Dylan Delpizzo and features a two-piece alder body with a NOS Urethane custom finish married to a flamed maple neck with an ebony fingerboard. It's packed with a Seymour Duncan Invader Humbucker and features a two-point Custom Classic Strat Tremolo arm.
Each model was shipped with a Hot Wheels strap and pick set, a custom Hot Wheels hardshell case, a COA, and the Hot Wheels die-cast car the guitar was inspired by. This listing features all of those original goodies. The guitar itself is in practically new condition, and definitely worth checking out if you have a soft spot for Hot Wheels (and perhaps an extra several grand burning a hole in your wallet).
