Boss and JHS have announced the release of a new collaboration: the JB-2 Angry Driver.
This overdrive combines the circuits of the Boss BD-2 Blues Driver and the JHS Angry Charlie within a single Boss enclosure. Both circuits can be run individually or in tandem with separate concentric controls for Level, Tone, and Drive.
According to a press release from Boss, the JB-2 includes "a six-way mode selector allows the player to choose between the two overdrive types or combine them in various series and parallel configurations. This enables the JB-2 to produce an enormous range of sounds, from subtle boost to ultra-high-gain distortion."
The JB-2 is being released as part of Boss' 40th Anniversary celebration, and marks the first co-branded pedal with a boutique maker in the Japanese firm's history. Earlier this summer, Boss released a limited edition reissue pack of the first three compact pedals alongside a series of major announcements from Roland's synth division.
According to JHS founder, Josh Scott: "In parallel, the six controls form one new pedal, and that is very, very cool. When you put them together, they all interact and there are hundreds of sounds."
Scott got his start in the pedal business by modding Boss pedals like the Blues Driver, and his company continues to offer mods for a number of core Boss models.
There is no word yet on whether or not Boss has other pedal collaborations planned beyond this initial offering.
