Detroit's ACME Audio has a small product line, even for a boutique manufacturer, but what little they do make is extremely well-built and drips classic tone. ACME's gear has caught the attention and ears of engineer extraordinaire Vance Powell, Blackbird Studio owner John McBride, prolific producer Glenn Rosenstein, and countless other top names in the recording business and shows no signs of slowing down. At the 139th AES Convention in NYC, Reverb's Jim Tuerk talked shop with ACME's Al Sutton, who is also an amazing recording engineer and the proprietor of Rustbelt Studios. They chatted about the WB-3 direct box, based on the legendary Motown DI, and both the rackmount and 500 Series versions of the Opticom tube compressor with three switchable optical compression curves.
