Black Walnut/Red Cedar with Flamed Koa binding
Marc Beneteau is among the Canadian builders that are producing instruments that stand amongst the best in the world. Having built for some of the finest players to ever pick up a guitar (think Don Ross), Marc continues to hone his craft with the same attention to detail and passion that has fuelled his career since 1974. Now based in Ontario, the urge to begin building instruments was initially sparked by visiting Bill Lewis Music, here in Vancouver, when the pioneering Lewis brothers were opening up the lutherie industry.
This OM is elegantly understated, but delivers a big balanced sound with the warmth of the Cedar top clearly articulated by the Walnut back and sides - responsive to a sensitive touch or capable of handling aggressive strumming. Light in weight, and comfortable to hold, the neck profile could be characterized as a modified D with the ebony fingerboard accented by a wash of lighter coloured wood down the centre.
