Mid to Late 70s Electra Dan Armstrong Copy. This guitar is awesome, the Electra models are commonly regarded as the most desirable of the Dan Armstrong ripoffs. Unlike the Univox version, this one has the correct body shape and thickness, pretty close headstock shape (although larger than the Ampeg headstock ) and includes the sliding replaceable pickup cutout (the Univox guitars have regular mounted humbuckers) and a bridge that is actually better than the original Armstrong rosewood bar, because it has individual saddles for each string.

The action is pretty decent, the neck is thin and the fretboard is very wide. The stock single coil pickup is very bright and punchy sounding, but has a good amount of bass response. similar to a P90. I didn't test it with a multimeter but the output seems high. I also bought a PAF style humbucker from the guy in Washington that bought the rights to the Dan Armstrong name. In my opinion it sounds much better, a warm, smooth PAF humbucker sound, but that's just my preference. this pickup is included but FULL DISCLOSURE: it doesn't have a mounting screw, and anyway the screw hole doesn't line up with the hole on the back of the guitar. I was able to keep the pickup in place by wedging some cardboard between either sides of the pickup and the walls of the pickup cavity in the guitar, and it stayed in place fine for live performances. Maybe you want to add some tape, but I prefer to live dangerously. The blades don't line up exactly the same under the strings, they are skewed towards the low E string, but the pickup sounds great. It was also a little too tall so the bottom edge was unprofessionally sanded down for a better fit, but what are you complaining about, it's a free $65 pickup.

The guitar is in great shape for being 35+ years old with these minor exceptions:
1. missing truss rod cover
2. upper rear strap button screw has broken off inside the body. this can be tapped and removed by a machinist, but I never bothered because the guitar balances fine on the remaining strap button.
3. when i got it, the toggle switch wiring didn't make any sense. middle and rear positions sounded the same, front position was almost like a kill switch but some sound bled through. the switch went bad recently and my repair guy replaced it and left the wiring scheme the same. the original switch is included if you like that kind of thing.

There are some minor scuffs on the body but no cracks, breaks or repairs. The frets have between 80 - 90% life left, with only the first few showing noticeable wear. Tuners were upgraded at some point to Grover Rotomatics. Came with dunlop straplocks, which will be included, but the strap will not.

The case is pretty beat, but 3 of the 4 latches work and hold the case solidly closed. I used some egg crate foam to pad the inside of the lid to keep the guitar from banging around inside the case. Foam is not included, because it's going back inside my pedal case, but you're using a computer so you must at least be smart enough to be able to throw a t-shirt or something in the case to keep the guitar from rattling around.

SHIPPING: I listed the shipping rate at $75, because the last 2 guitars I shipped cost me about $80 each. Contact me and let me know where you are and I will do my best to get you a reasonable quote, but I pack guitars well and i refuse to ship uninsured. I'm open to offers and more willing to negotiate if you are willing to meet in the general area of a 1 hour drive from philadelphia and pick this up in person.
