Up for sale is a uniquely upgraded, world-class vocal microphone: a Rode NTK Large-Diaphragm Tube Condenser, completely transformed by the highly respected John Bonnell Modification and outfitted with a premium Telefunken E88CC-TK Black Diamond Series tube.
If you’ve ever used a stock Rode NTK, you know they are notorious for an aggressive, sometimes brittle high-end "bite" around 10kHz–12kHz. This microphone has completely cured that issue.
The John Bonnell Modifications:
Stock ceramic caps stripped and replaced with premium, audiophile-grade, low-noise capacitors.
Circuit fine-tuned to smooth out the harsh upper-mid/high frequency response.
Significantly lowered noise floor and vastly improved transient response.
The Tube Upgrade:
Equipped with a modern Telefunken E88CC-TK tube (cryogenically treated, extended burn-in, gold-plated pins).
Provides pristine, ultra-quiet performance with beautiful midrange clarity and subtle, warm harmonic saturation.
The result is a microphone that stops sounding like a budget tube mic and starts behaving like a vintage classic. It is an absolute powerhouse on vocals (especially dynamic lead vocals or tenors), smoothing out sibilance beautifully before the signal even hits your preamp. It pairs incredibly well with high-headroom, transformer-heavy channel strips like a Neve Portico.
