This Bronze pre amp is a monster in terms of coloring inputs with bass and low mids. I built two of them and love them dearly but alas... I only have 8 slots in my main I/O rack and to avoid GAS... somethings gotta go. The Bronze is really an awesome pre alone, however where it shines is adding low mids and bass. Do you have a mic that's a bit thin and top heavy? Plug it into the Bronze and now it's got OOMPH. Or... conversely is that ribbon mic too boomy on the lows, well dig on into it partner and patch it through the Bronze to really explore how boomy it ultimately ends up in the mix. Seriously I don't understand why this pre isn't more popular. An absolute MVP on bass guitar DI, re-amping drum loops and anything that's needs more bass and overall OOMPH. Think all your pres are just chasing that 1073 sound? Not this one buddy, this ones hairy and definitely the wooly elephant in the room.
From Hairball themselves "We’ve always loved the sound of the LA3A compressor. It imparts a recognizable signature onto the signal, even without compressing. We sought to recreate this thick midrange magic in a mic preamp. We started by commissioning Eisen Audio (Brooklyn, NYC) to adapt the LA3A output amp for 2520 format. We call this the "Raindog" op-amp, and its sound will put a smile on the face of color seekers. Manufactured here in Seattle, the Raindog op-amp is everything we'd hoped for. Paired with a Cinemag CM-2511 input transformer, and Ed Anderson B11148 output transformer, each authentic recreations of the original LA3A parts, this mic pre is true to its inspiration.

This pre is for anyone looking to add bottom end and midrange girth to their material."
Like I said this is my second one... if I was running a pro studio I defo keep it, but I'm just a hobbyist and ... well buddy, you buy it and see... you'll love it.
