Here is my first generation (prototype?) MTP-66 by Acme Audio back when it was just called the Motown Tube Preamp. Made in Detroit, this is a back engineered, single channel replica of the original 5-channel tube preamp designed and used in the famous Motown Hitsville USA studio in Detroit that cranked out thousands of legendary songs. Literally what Jamerson and the rest of the band plugged into. This particular unit was one of maybe 50 pre-ordered units that I jumped on as soon as I heard they were coming out. By far, the greatest sounding preamp I’ve ever owned, and I immediately ordered a second one. I’ve had 2 for years, one that I use on live gigs, and this one which has remained in my smoke free studio just for recording. Since I’m not doing a ton of recording these days, I’ve decided to let it go. Filled with all NOS vintage tubes that I installed myself, this unique circuit also utilizes a 6V6 power tube that runs under a watt, so you get some of that power tube saturation without requiring any kind of speaker load. Also sounds fantastic for vocals, guitar, bass, keys, and even drums!
