1982 Alvarez Yairi DY73 60th Anniversary Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar MIJ Japan w/ Original Case
This is a rare and highly desirable 1982 Alvarez Yairi DY73, handcrafted in Japan under the direction of master luthier Kazuo Yairi. Built as part of the special 60th Anniversary celebration of St. Louis Music (1922-1982), this model features the original commemorative anniversary plate mounted on the back of the headstock and a signed interior label dating the instrument to 1982.
Vintage Alvarez Yairi instruments from this era have earned a reputation for exceptional craftsmanship, premium tonewoods, and remarkable tonal maturity. After more than four decades of natural aging, this DY73 delivers the rich, open, responsive sound that has made early Yairi guitars favorites among players and collectors alike.
The beautifully aged spruce top is finished in a warm vintage amber burst and accented with attractive abalone appointments, multi-ply binding, an ebony fingerboard, ebony bridge, and original gold Yairi tuners. The guitar has developed tasteful finish checking throughout the years, giving it the authentic appearance and character expected from a well-preserved vintage instrument.
Tonally, this guitar offers deep bass response, clear mids, and articulate highs with excellent sustain and projection. Whether used for flatpicking, fingerstyle playing, recording, or performance, it responds with the mature voice only decades of aging can provide.
This example includes the original Alvarez hardshell case.

Condition
Very Good vintage condition. This guitar shows normal cosmetic wear consistent with its age, including light scratches, small dings, finish wear, and noticeable finish checking/crazing throughout various areas of the instrument. The finish checking appears to be cosmetic in nature and is consistent with the aging commonly found on vintage acoustic guitars from this period. Hardware shows normal oxidation and patina from age.
The guitar remains structurally sound, plays well, and produces the rich, resonant tone that has made vintage Yairi instruments so highly respected. The neck feels comfortable, the frets have plenty of life remaining, and the guitar is ready for many more years of playing.
The original hardshell case is included and shows normal cosmetic wear from decades of storage and transport.
Vintage Alvarez Yairi guitars continue to be sought after for their craftsmanship, tone, and collectibility. This 1982 DY73 anniversary model is a wonderful example of Japanese acoustic guitar building from one of the most respected makers of the era.
