This absolutely outstanding Epiphone Zenith time capsule comes straight out of the estate sale of a guitar collector. It arrived in its original Epiphone hardshell case, shows very little wear, and is a wonderful example of this quite rare model. I had never seen one before, and when I saw it, I just had to bring it to the shop to share with you.
What a beauty!
These were made back in 2010 and 2011 by Epiphone, with their goal being to produce a high-quality bass guitar that emulates a stand-up Bass, while also producing the tonality of a modern electric. And they did a fantastic job. This thing is just incredible.
To achieve this goal, they appear to have spared no expense.
- Solid Mahogany Body with computer-routed chambering
- Stunning Flame Maple top
- Tortoise Shell binding on the top and F-holes, and custom Tortoise Shell truss rod cover
- Roasted Maple Neck with Walnut Stringers with Ebonized Rosewood fretboard
- NanoMag Neck Pickup - This is an active, low-impedance magnetic pickup featuring samarium-cobalt magnets tucked seamlessly right against the end of the 21st fret
- NanoFlex Bridge Pickup - The NanoFlex is a flexible, 7-layer sensor element that doesn't just register string vibration—it simultaneously captures the physical vibration of the top wood and the internal acoustic chambers. And let me tell you, it absolutely works!
- Volume Control, Blend Pot, and Hi and Low Frequency EQ for each pickup with dual concentric knobs
- Dual mono/stereo outputs! You can run mono, with both pickups running to one amp, or you can run stereo with each pickup producing a separate output. I tried it and it's amazing.
Yeah, so this thing is nuts.
I've got the frets polished, fretboard cleaned and oiled, and the entirety of the remainder of the guitar has been cleaned and hand polished. It displays light signs of use, but no cracks, gouges, or chips.
Plays fantastic with a D-Shaped Satin-finish neck. Smooth as silk. The fretboard is perfect.
- Neck tone? It sits right in the absolute acoustic "sweet spot" for deep, pillowy low-end. It delivers an incredibly fat, warm, organic jazz tone that breathes like a high-end archtop. If you roll entirely onto the NanoMag, and boost the onboard bass EQ, you get a super-thick, thumping sub-bass response that reggae, neo-soul, and traditional jazz players will certainly recognize.
- Bridge tone? Here's where you get all the crisp definition, string attack, and acoustic "air". It produces the woody, percussive click of fingers on strings and the natural resonance of the hollow chambers extremely well. I absolutely love this bridge tone. LOVE IT!
What more can I say? Come take her home! You Will Love This Bass!
