This German guitar lute (tuned and played the same way as a regular 6-string guitar) is a restored, completely and comfortably playable instrument that has a wonderfully preserved original finish and was made approx. in the 1890s, most likely in the Musikwinkel area on the Czech-German border (which used to be famous for its musical instruments manufactures). It's an incredibly enjoyable, checked and cleaned antique instrument with a sonorous sound that makes it stand out, along with a detailed carved rosette – no wall hanger by any means! Unlike many available instruments of this kind, all parts of this lute are in a great condition.
The instrument has a solid spruce top, a solid compound flame maple back, a hand-carved rosette, and its typical brass tuners (working great). All parts of the lute are original, it has a rosewood fretboard, a straight neck and it is in a very good condition overall (the hairline crack on the top seen on the photos is properly repaired and does not impair the sound or integrity of the instrument in any way). There are only minor marks of use on the finish here and there, one seam in the backbowl has been previously properly reglued together.
The scale lenght is 624 mm, the nut width is 43 mm, the distance between lower and upper E strings at the saddle is 58 mm. The lute is presently tuned in standard guitar tuning.
