Selmer Mark VI Tenor Saxophone #115912

This Mark VI tenor was used by a professional jazz musician who had to let go of it because of old age. It broke his heart, but he realized that someone who loves playing jazz will love it as much as he did. It lost a good bit of its lacquer and all of the pads, corks and springs were done for. So we brought it back to life in our shop.

All of the pads, corks and springs were removed. All of the keys, the body and the neck were soaked in a solvent that removed as much of the gunk we could. Then we dried it down and went over all of it with a cloth of solvent alcohol. Each of the old needle springs were measured and replaced with new ones. All corks were glued into position and cut cleanly with a razor. All of the pads were tossed out and replaced with Prestini pads.

The last steps are my favorites. All of the pads are glued in and shifted positions to cover all of the tone-holes. Once covered correctly, the pads must be aligned with each other so they come down at the same time with the same alignment of pads. Key heights are opened or closed a bit, key felts are adjusted to correct heights as well. When all of this is done we have the privilege to try out the horn. We play scales from bottom to top. We try subtone for the softest, or cranking out the loudest we can get. We play a few tunes we know.

The pictures show the rest. There are plenty of scratches and missing lacquer. Not a pretty horn. But if you want a really great playing tenor at a reasonable cost, this could be the horn for you! Please feel free to ask us any questions you may have. You will have ten days from the day it arrives at your door to try the horn out as much as you can. If for some reason you are not satisfied with this horn, just send it back to us in the same box and bubble wrap that it came in. Your money will be returned ASAP.
